If the magnitude of the magnification is greater than 1, the image appears bigger than the object. If the magnitude of the magnification is less than 1, the image appears to be smaller than the object. If the magnitude of the magnification equals 1, the image is the same size as the object.

In the previous example, find the magnification of the object.

A magnification of -3 implies that the image is 3 times larger than the object and, since the magnification is negative, the image is upside down.
